When in war it helps if you fight!
God’s people are in a spiritual war that we largely don’t acknowledge or understand. Consequently, we are not fighting. Failure to recognize that we are embroiled in continuous supernatural warfare has left us unprepared, exposed and in genuine danger. That doesn’t mean we’re beyond hope or that we lose. On the contrary, we win when we make ourselves aware of and utilize the overcoming victorious weapons of warfare that God has graciously given us!
We have any number of such spiritual weapons at our disposal—praise, prayer, worship, thanksgiving, and abiding in Christ, to name a few. One of the most powerful weapons in our arsenal is seldom used—the authority we have in Christ to take righteous dominion over the powers of darkness and the forces of evil. Our God-given authority emboldens us to take dominion over everything coming against us to keep it from taking dominion over us!
You take dominion through faith-empowered declarations, commands and decrees. The idea is for you to be OVER—not UNDER—the things that oppose the active goodness of God in your life.
Taking dominion—coming over not under—happens when you confront the enemy and declare aloud the truths that the Living Word has imparted to your spirit. You don’t beg the Father to do what He promises and is already doing. You partner with Him and take authority by speaking out loud what He is presently doing in the heavens to release this into the earth—through you!
Speaking from a place of doubt, unbelief or the negativity of the world mindset is to prophesy defeat. Choose instead to declare what God has promised and shown you He is already doing.
It’s time to switch up your prayer strategy. Establish dominion and authority by making declarations, commands and decrees—whether you’re praying for justice to prevail following years of injustice, praying for protection from something, praying healing over chronic health issues, praying for the cancellation of long-term enemy assignments against you, or whatever else you take before God.
As you practice dominion authority in prayer, Holy Spirit will give you direction and revelation. There are many things to declare, command and decree. Here are a few thoughts to get you started.
Declare in the name of Jesus.
I declare I live in the land of Goshen, my protected place with God, and no pestilence or plague is allowed to enter here.
I declare no harm will come near my tent.
I declare there are protecting angels standing guard and surrounding me, my family and my land.
I declare all plans of the enemy to harm me and my family are cancelled now in Jesus’ name.
I declare Jesus is my Peace and Protector. I will not be afraid.
I declare the enemy will not steal my joy, rest and peace.
I declare I’m not too tired to fight.
I declare I won’t give up.
Declaring God’s promises directly out of Scripture delights God and terrifies the enemy!
Command in the name of Jesus:
Name the thing that is against you—
________________________, you must bow to the name of Jesus.
________________________, I command you to be gone now in Jesus’ name.
________________________, I render you toothless in the name of Jesus.
________________________, I, my family and my land are off limits to you. Cease and desist!
And these miracle signs will accompany those who believe: They will drive out demons in the power of my name. They will speak in tongues. They will be supernaturally protected from snakes and from drinking anything poisonous. And they will lay hands on the sick and heal them. Mark 16:16-18
Finally, prophesy to your future, including the time and space you are presently in:
I decree the goodness and provision of God in this place.
I decree this is a protected place for God’s plans and purposes to prevail.
I decree health and wholeness to me, my family and my land.
I decree peace and rest to me, my family and my land.
I decree that all the promises of God are true—and they all apply to me.
Remember, you are the prophet of your future. So speak what God has already done in heaven to activate it in earth.
Spend some time with the Lord activating this way of prayer. It may feel strange at first, but as you grow into it with the Lord you will tap into your true identity and authority in Christ!
You will pray to Him, and He will hear you; And you will pay your vows. You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you; And light will shine on your ways. When you are cast down, you will speak with confidence, And the humble person He will save. Job 22:27-29
Know your enemy and know yourself,
and you can fight a hundred battles without disaster.
