Are you battle ready?
I don’t feel safe. This has become a mantra occupying our national narrative. I don’t feel safe now serves as an institutionally certified excuse for a state of permanent victimization, for not assuming responsibility for one’s own actions, and for outright unbelief on the part of God’s people.
Shortly after the Covid pandemic began and rampant fear seated itself as the governing force of our lives and culture, God spoke this to me, You are not to be afraid. I want you to daily declare out loud, ‘I live in the land of Goshen.’ Just as the plagues unleashed on Egypt did not come near my people Israel in the land of Goshen, you will be safe when you establish your dwelling with me.
But on that day I will deal differently with the land of Goshen, where my people live; no swarms of flies will be there, so that you will know that I, the LORD, am in this land. I will make a distinction between my people and your people. Exodus 8:22-23
I absolutely did not feel safe—but I obeyed God. Every time fear began to grip me and my household, I would declare aloud I live in the land of Goshen! Soon I began to notice that fear was making fewer and fewer incursions into my life, not only relative to Covid, but in many other areas as well. Before long, I realized that making this simple declaration was a powerful and effective weapon of warfare that was keeping the enemy at bay.
You may have legitimate reasons for feeling unsafe. Perhaps there is trauma in your past, or perhaps you are living under distressing circumstances. There can be thousands of reasons for any of us to feel unsafe. The truth is—no one is ‘safe’ in this world. We are only safe when we intentionally establish our dwelling with God, believe in our hearts that He is our absolute Protector, and take up the full authority He has given us to trample the enemy!
If you make the Most High your dwelling—even the LORD, who is my refuge—then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. Psalm 91:9-13
Where are you feeling unsafe?
What declaration of faith can you make in this circumstance?
How do you see your declarations and decrees as weapons of warfare for taking authority over the enemy?
Know your enemy and know yourself,
and you can fight a hundred battles without disaster.
