TIME OUT

For such a time as this!
A special message from guest contributor Joseph Soler.

Like many of you, I’ve been seeking the Lord regarding the worldwide coronavirus pandemic crisis and isolation period, asking, “Father, please show me what this means.”

Though I don’t have all the answers, I hear in my heart that Father God is using this crisis to awaken His people around the globe.

Revival begins with my church, not the world.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

When we as believers repent of our sins and walk in obedience to His Word, the world will see our transformation and open their hearts and minds to the Father’s message of salvation through Jesus Christ. This turning and opening will precipitate the greatest harvest of souls the world has ever seen.

What the enemy means for evil, the Father always uses for good. The coronavirus pandemic isolation period is a forced Time Out in which everyone is invited to search their hearts, identify personal sin and compromise, and repent on behalf of ourselves, the Church, and our nation.

In the Book of Revelation, Jesus warns the churches in Asia Minor about the sin and immorality resident in our hearts. In fact, idolatry and compromise remain prevalent in the Church today. Christians are as consumed by greed, rebellion and pride as non-Christians. During this Time Out, the Lord is allowing us a reset—an opportunity to renew our passion for God and take to heart the truth found in 1 John 2:15-16

Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.

Consider some of the idols that get in the way of right relationship with God—

Idol  Father God’s response
Religion (instead of relationship) Cancellation of worship services
Sports Suspension/Cancellation/Delay of Season
Wealth Downturn in Stock Market
Entertainment Cancelation of concerts, theater, movies
Travel/Leisure Travel and movement restrictions
Work Work from home or cessation of work
Education Schools closed (pre-schools to universities)

This global Time Out parallels God’s intervention during Israel’s captivity in Egypt, Exodus 7-11. During this time, God was clear—there was to be no work whatsoever, not for the Egyptian taskmaster or the Hebrew slave. Through the plagues, the Father demonstrated His absolute sovereignty over their various objects of worship—celestial bodies, water, animals and more. The Hebrews suffered five plagues along with the Egyptians. Israel was spared by their merciful Father God through the other five.

Five is God’s number of grace.

During this pause from our daily routine, God is offering grace—a forced Sabbath rest from all that has occupied our lives and caused us to wander. This is our opportunity to decompress, to examine the faultlines in our faith, and to draw near to the Father heart of God in prayer, repentance and rest.

Ask Father God for your part in bringing healing to yourself, your family, your community and the nation.

We can identify the things that have become idols in our lives by what happens when they are taken away.

What for you has been the hardest part of extended isolation at home?

What has been the best part?

What idols has this forced sabbath exposed in your life?

Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. James 5:16
