I was horrified to discover recently that a few PayPal transactions had “expired” and showed “cancelled” even though the orders had been fulfilled. Why? Because I had not “captured” the funds in my account within the required 30 days!

Frustration mounted as I waited through a painful hour of squawky PayPal music for someone to help me get to the bottom of this. I had time to think—to fume actually—and finally to notice something interesting.

God’s transactions require a similar response and engagement from us if we are to appropriate the complete benefit of His present deposit to our lives. Our engagement and alignment with who He is and what He is doing enables us to “capture” His full reward.

Either we capture the reality of the kingdom of God, activated in our lives and resources. Or we become captive to a lesser reality of that which is rightfully ours.

When Simon Peter declares that Jesus is the Anointed One, the Son of the living God, Jesus calls him favored and privileged to have captured this supernatural revelation of His true identity.

Notice in Matthew 16:13-19, instead of being captive to a carnal perception of Jesus’ identity, Peter captured and declared the divine identity of the Son of God that could be known only by revelation. As a result, the kingdom keys were given him as well, to bind on earth what is bound in heaven, and to loose on earth what is loosed in heaven.

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. Colossians 2:8-9

As you slide into this holiday season, what do you most need to capture in order to enjoy the fullness of authentic Christmas?

What most threatens to take you captive to a lesser experience of Christmas than what God desires for you?

What can you do to capture the true message, meaning and significance of this Christmas season as a personal gift from heaven for you? For your family?

Wishing you and yours a glorious Christmas.
